Otokar, a Koç group company, has been included in the BIST Sustainability Index (BIST) for the second year in a row as the only bus manufacturer among the 43 companies that constitute the Index. The companies to be listed in the November 2016 – October 2017 period were assessed for their sustainability performances based on the Selection Criteria defined in the BIST Sustainability Index Ground Rules. Aiming to create long-term value by combining economic, environmental and societal factors with corporate governance principles, Otokar has been listed at 21st place in the BIST Sustainability Index this year with its performance in each criterion.

Otokar's Sustainability Report was prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the world's leading international independent reporting organization, in terms of determining the scope and aspects, defining the content structure and calculating the performance data, and approved for the G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, the latest version of the GRI Principles.

Serdar Görgüç, General Manager - Otokar, stated that Otokar has adopted and actively supports the principles of the United Nations Global Compact, which Koç Holding signed in 2006 on behalf of all Group companies, and added, "We at Otokar continue to grow consistently while we are committed to leaving a more liveable and sustainable world for future generations, and we manage all of our processes based on accountability, transparency and responsibility principles. In all of our operations, we always aim to be close to the people and the society, and environmentally friendly, and act according to universal business ethics."

"WE REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION 3% PER UNIT"

Serdar Görgüç mentioned that Otokar was first included in the BIST Sustainability Index the previous year, and has undertaken numerous activities to develop product and manufacturing processes that are environmentally friendly as a key factor in the sustainability program. Görgüç added, "We carried out several activities to utilize our resources more efficiently without compromising our ethical guidelines, how we value the environment, people and the society, and our corporate governance principles. The efficiency and optimization efforts resulted in saving 5,550 GJ of power and 492 tonnes of CO₂e greenhouse gas emissions, while we reused 149, 735 cubic meters of recovered water in manufacturing processes, surpassing our savings figures of last year."

Otokar's R&D centre continues to work on reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing processes and the impact that the use of its products has on the environment. With over TL 46.5 million spent on R&D in 2015, Otokar's R&D investments in the last decade have amounted to TL 310 million in total. The company also continues to support the professional and personal development of its employees, and provides extensive occupational health and safety trainings with the aim of zero accidents in the workplace.
